Ruairhi (rOR-ee) Payne (they/them/elle), B.A., is a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder. During their time at CU Boulder, Ruairhi majored Political Science with a focus in political theory and minored in Media Production through the College of Media, Communications, and Information(CMCI). In their continued political research, Ruairhi explores how art and culture are impacted by capitalist systems and ideas, drawing from authors such as Karl Marx and Walter Benjamin. In their media making, Ruairhi has taken special interest in documentary filmmaking and photography. Ruairhi focuses on expository films about political issues and life in their local communities in their documentary and on portraiture in their photography, with a particular interest towards dance portraiture. Both their creative interests and their political research point toward one central goal: understanding the human experience. As they build their practice, Ruairhi continues to develop their creative eye and practice new techniques. Outside of their academic and media production endeavors, Ruairhi is a lifelong dancer and political activist.
